Bassoonist and contrabassoonist Andrew Genemans teaches bassoon in the Department of Music. An avid orchestral musician, he joined the Grand Rapids Symphony in 2017. He has performed with such renowned ensembles as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony, Detroit Symphony and St. Louis Symphony.

Andrew’s solo performances on bassoon and contrabassoon have included Vivaldi’s Concerto in E Minor with Resonance Works | Pittsburgh, and the premiere of Mark Fromm’s “Lingua Cosmica” for solo contrabassoon and chamber ensemble with the Carnegie Mellon Contemporary Music Ensemble.

From 2015 to 2017, Andrew was a contrabassoon fellow at the Aspen Music Festival and School, studying with Per Hannevold and Michael Sweeney. His teachers have included Nancy Goeres, Jonathan Sherwin, Jim Rodgers and Renee Anthony Dee.

He previously served on the faculty of Seton Hill University in Pennsylvania.

Outside the College

Andrew enjoys traveling with his wife, Clare, spending time with their dog, Juniper, trying out new recipes in the kitchen and writing poetry.
